Vegan sweet potato soup was delicious as was the caramelised onion tartlet. My main of Jerusalem artichoke Wellington and braised vegetables with split barley was just divine. Perfect in every way. Couldn't fault it. Would love to make this dish or components of it for our mixed vegan/vegetarian and fish only and meat eating Xmas guests. The vegan in our party had the veg stir fry with udon noodles and smoked tofu though not a huge tofu fan. Happy with the dish although it was not stunning in my non-vegan opinion, however the tofu was the best we had tasted, not overpoweringly smoked and silky smooth. I would have guessed it was egg based if I had done a blind tasting. We were too full to try more than one desert - the baked apple tart with home made chocolate ice cream. It was superb. The only critical comment I had was the bread roll at the beginning was ordinary and if served, a bread option would be better served with a choice of oils and butter, considering the likelihood of vegan diners. However, thats a small point in an otherwise outstanding culinary experience. While I've had a couple of decent dishes, most times what comes on the table is a weak effort. I live 50 meters up the road, and still only go when others are organising - there's too many other options around where the kitchen actually knows how to cook!

My guess is that they get a lot of good-will free just from the rare combo of upscale/vegetarian/ambition - thus the good reviews. Shame that they can't seem to follow through. It's in Southall (surprise surprise) & called Desi Dragon (opposite Himalaya cinema) - & is a treasure trove of indo-chinese delights! They serve the usual hakka noodles, chilli chicken, schezwan dishes but are honestly the most authentic indo-chinese food I've had outside of India. Only downside is that the restaurant is a small, dimly-lit place, but if you live near, you could always just grab a takeaway!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1932122650577865649.post-16737621588372260652012-05-06T16:55:45.041+01:002012-05-06T16:55:45.041+01:00As a vegetarian in Paris i have to say you did pre...As a vegetarian in Paris i have to say you did pretty well with the bill! Almost all vegetarian/ vegan restaurants are "bio" (organic) and it's used as an excuse to double prices. It wouldn't be so terrible if the food was good but compared to london the dishes are often uninspiring and i find myself going to standard restaurants and convincing chefs to whip something up (always a success although it means spending ten minutes explaining the problems with some cheeses, chicken stock, fish sauce etc.) That being said i've recently found the ONLY vegetarian place that even my meat loving friends adore Chez Charbel in the 16th, it's tiny and always full but well worth booking in advance.
I miss eating out in England!! I even miss Quorn!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1932122650577865649.post-24898324995340667152012-02-03T17:31:28.433+00:002012-02-03T17:31:28.433+00:00Hi There, I just wanted you to know that I just st...Hi There, I just wanted you to know that I just started an Indian social club called 'Real Indian Connections in India' on meetup.com and your reviews and blog will be very useful for picking food places for the group! thank you!Miranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1932122650577865649.post-60852078196184316702011-10-03T19:26:26.303+01:002011-10-03T19:26:26.303+01:00Love your blog! For starters I especially enjoy 'Crispy Kumbh' - a paneer-stuffed, deep-fried mushroom dish. Some of the mains I have enjoyed include Paneer Butter Masala, Veg Jalfrezi and Navratna Korma. It's worth trying the desserts if you're able to spend a tad more.

Service: The service has consistently improved. The restaurant has a good number of staff so that you do not have to wait long to order or ask for something. The food was served impressively quick.

Ambience: The interior design of the restaurant is beautiful. The seats and tables are comfortable. There are some comfy sofas towards the back of the restaurant too!

Price: I do not eat out often so the price is high for me (nevertheless, it is definitely worth it once in a while). But compared to other restaurants of a similar standard, I believe Shayona is cheap. You can easily be filled up for £10 per person.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1932122650577865649.post-725256081408399502011-05-06T11:25:01.866+01:002011-05-06T11:25:01.866+01:00I wondered if you'd ever visited the Freightli...I wondered if you'd ever visited the Freightliners City Farm, which is just off Liverpool Road in Islington.
